What is Part F?
With new build residential properties becoming increasingly more air tight, it is now more important than ever to ensure the ventilation system within a dwelling is correctly installed and meets the minimum performance standards for air extraction and supply as set out in the UK's Building Regulations Approved Document F.
Part F ventilation testing refers to the inspection and testing of ventilation systems (such as extractor fans in kitchens, bathrooms) in new and existing residential buildings to ensure they comply with Approved Document F
How does Part F impact my project?
Testing of ventilation systems is legally required to verify the practical performance of ventilation in new build dwellings, converted properties and retrofit projects. By ensuring this testing is completed, you’ll be complying with Part F of the Building Regulations.
The goal of Part F ventilation testing is to ensure that buildings provide a healthy and comfortable indoor environment for occupants.
Arranging ventilation testing
We can co-ordinate the ventilation testing for you so that it is undertaken at the same time as the air tightness test. Any dwellings not requiring an air test can also be incorporated into the fan testing regime. Alternatively, our accredited Engineers can attend site to test all fans available.
On booking in, we’ll need to know which Building Regulations the project is being assessed under as different minimum flow rates apply. We also issue a checklist to help you prepare for testing.
What happens on site during ventilation testing?
Visual inspection - Our Engineer will check that the ventilation system has been installed correctly.
Airflow measurements - Using specialised calibrated equipment our Engineer will measure the actual airflow rates of extract fans to ensure the installed vents meet the minimum requirements specified in Part F.
Documentation - On completion of testing, our Engineer will provide a ventilation certificate for each plot, detailing the test results for compliance and/or identifying any vents that may require additional testing.
